She was one of those rare people that not just intellectualized or talked about liberty, but actually undertook physical, dangerous tasks to see that it came about. She did not let anybody keep her enslaved when she had a chance to unbound the chains of slavery and walk a free woman. She was not content to enjoy the fountain of freedom herself, in peace, but set out on a path to free others with her Underground Railroad. She did not sit back placidly, as she could have, and just let the soldiers fight it out, but she fought, too, and fought men. Her name was Harriet Tubman, circa 1822 – 1913, one great liberator.
